The Branch will be a new gathering of people (church plant) specifically for a younger generation (13-30 years of age). However, the aim is to provide a platform for this generation to be part of The Vine's strategy for extending the kingdom of God in Penwith. The Challenge (Vision) is to examine the way gathering is done, to actively engage people who wish to be mentored (discipled), and form a radical army passionate about expressing their relationship with Jesus in a relevant way.
Doing church differently - to some people (so it has
been said to me) this sounds suspicious, odd, scary. What's wrong with
the way we do church? I would encourage you to wait and see. Read Floyd
McClungs book "You see bones - I see an army" or "The Because
Approach - Innovating Church for All", and the Acts of the Apostles.
Then ask yourselves are we doing church the way it was intended and is
intended to be? We are on a journey seeking to "do church" the
way God wants it to be in our setting, church history is valuable and
the development of the way church has been done through the ages holds
many good lessons, however, unless we can answer the questions "Why
do we do things the way we do them" with the certainity and scriptural
base of "Because that is the way God has asked us to do them",
then we stand on uncertaintity.
To date we have been working on a group of young teens finding those who are passionate for God and seeking to disciple them into becoming a missional community. They have formed their own "cell group" called Soul Fuel and are about to launch (Feb 2011) their outreach into the community under the banner of Ignite.
